Location:

Kedros, Samos

The design draws inspiration from selected elements of Samos' historical and cultural identity, translating them into a contemporary architectural language. The geometry of Pythagoras is subtly expressed through the project's layout and the geometric clarity of its volumes, where the interplay of acute, obtuse and vertical angles creates a composition that alludes to triangulation and mathematical order. The entrance sequence is inspired by the Tunnel of Eupalinos, becoming the project's primary spatial reference. Two curved gestures guide visitors through an introspective transition, defined by high retaining walls and an elongated descending staircase leading to the first platform. The journey culminates in a naturally illuminated reception space, where fluid ceiling geometries seamlessly extend towards the outdoor restaurant and pool area. The site's steep topography is articulated through a series of terraced platforms, organizing the development into three distinct zones, each enjoying uninterrupted views over Kedros Gulf.

The complex is structured around a linear architectural spine composed of both subterranean and above-ground volumes that penetrate and merge with the landscape. Along the western edge, this spine curves to follow the natural geometry of the existing stream before gradually opening and orienting towards the sea. The descending sequence continues through a series of interconnected stairways, whose landings become the access points to the guest rooms. At the upper level, directly connected to the road, the entrance, reception and waiting area, restaurant and infinity pool are organized as the project's public core.  The rooms are conceived as solid stone volumes incorporating semi-open living spaces with timber elements, planted beds and glass balustrades. Their alternating arrangement generates a rich spatial composition, balancing privacy with continuous visual connections to the surrounding landscape. The sequence culminates in an open, permeable plateau where the main swimming pool forms the climax of the architectural narrative.
