'Kedros Hotel', Hotel Complex in Samos

Study:

Architecture

Year:

2024-2025

Location:

Kedros, Samos

The design is inspired by selected characteristic elements from the history of Samos. The geometry of Pythagoras is recalled at the engravings and at the geometric purity of the volumes, with a game of intersecting obtuse, acute and vertical angles that suggest triangulations. The entrance embodies the Eupaline Tunnel, where two curves lead to an introverted passage consisting of high lateral walls and a long staircase leading down to the first platform, which ends in the enlightened reception area with flowing curves on the ceiling and the outdoor area of the restaurant and infinity pool. The structure of the complex is like a backbone that integrates into the landscape, curving on the western boundary to receive the geomorphology of the existing stream and gradually opening and turning towards the view. The descent to the landscape continues by continuous stairs to the west, from the landings of which begin the axes of movement and entrances to the rooms. Due to the steep slope of the ground, the construction is formed into platforms and three distinctive units with an unobstructed view to the Gulf of Kedros. The units alternate according to the character of the space: from public to private. On the upper level, close to the street are: the entrance, the reception and waiting area, the administration and the restaurant with the infinity pool. The rooms are shaped as solid stone volumes centered on the site area with semi-open spaces constituted by wooden elements, planting spaces and glass parapets, in order to produce a various spatial and aesthetic effects. The path ends and completes to a bright open plateau with the public swimming pool.
